A new era rolls in
In recent decades, skateboarding has evolved from a subculture into an established sport. But not only that: the world surrounding skateboarding has become an integral part of fashion, music, and pop culture.
The growing number of women in skateparks, in particular, has profoundly changed the community – worldwide, from Finland to Egypt. Female skaters develop their own styles, set new trends, and prove: Skateboarding is for everybooty.
Mischi from Münster: "It doesn't matter who you are"
We met Mischi at Black Heaven Skateshop in Münster. The 22-year-old has been skateboarding for almost six years – and laughs at comments like "For a girl, you skate really well."
"I don't know what to do with that, but thanks." What got her into skateboarding? "It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from. You just ride a skateboard, regardless of whether you're good or bad. You belong."

Social media and international contests are crucial in giving female skaters more recognition worldwide. Women are not just shaping the sport – they are developing it further.
